KOPIMAS since 1841
In 1841, the first White Rajah of Sarawak - Sir James Brooke started his ruling in Sarawak. The government recruited Europeans but mainly British to run the civil service. The locals were exposed to the European culture and coffee drinking culture was introduced to Sarawak. A Chinese immigrant from Southern China was employed by a British officer to work as a chef in a club and with this opportunity he learned how coffee beans were processed. The skills were passed down to his next generations. Over the years, his successors have improved and created new skills of how coffee bean are processed and turned it into a famous coffee brand today in Sarawak called Kopimas. Kopimas is a portmanteau of the word `Kopi-‘ which is a Malay word for coffee and ‘Mas’ which means gold. The brand carries a sign of good quality and let’s us now sit down and relax enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee from Kopimas.
